Sandstone Point home charging

A lot of Sandstone Point's housing is recent, with low-set homes on estate blocks, double garages and modern switchboards. In these houses the meter box is commonly on the garage side, and the charger goes on the garage wall with a short, tidy run through the ceiling.

Older homes in the area are more varied. Some have had board upgrades, others have not, and a few have the meter on the far side of the house. We look at photos first and tell you whether a site visit is needed.

If you tow a caravan or boat, think about whether the car will be parked nose-in or with the trailer still attached. A longer tethered lead, or a charger mounted near the garage door, saves reversing in and out just to plug in. A cable hook on the wall keeps the lead tidy when the van is out.

What an EV charger install costs in Sandstone Point

A standard single-phase EV charger installation in Sandstone Point costs from $990 inc GST with Connex Electrical, plus the charger if you need one. Most Sandstone Point houses pay just that. The price only rises for a long cable run, an older switchboard that needs upgrading, or a three-phase charger, and you see any extra in a fixed written quote first.

How to pay less for a charger in Sandstone Point

  • Mount the charger on the garage wall closest to the meter box. A shorter run is the easiest saving.
  • Already have a charger from the dealer? We install it, so you only pay for installation.
  • If a second EV is coming, size the cable for it now rather than paying for a second callout later.
  • Choose a 7kW single-phase charger. It suits almost every household and avoids three-phase costs.

Sandstone Point considerations

Homes close to the passage are exposed to salty air, so outdoor installs get corrosion-resistant hardware and sheltered placement. Garage installs are largely unaffected.

If your home has solar, pairing it with a solar-aware charger can cover a good share of your driving from your own roof. We explain the options on our solar EV charging page. Energex's home charger rules changed in October 2026; we check what applies to your connection and lodge any notification needed, so there is nothing for you to chase.

Heading off on a trip across the bridge or up the coast? Set the charger to 100 per cent the night before and drop back to around 80 per cent for everyday use. Most charger apps make that a one-tap change.

Sandstone Point EV charging FAQs

Where should the charger go if I park a caravan at my Sandstone Point home?

Close to where the car stops when it is still hitched, or where it can reach both the garage and the driveway. That often means the garage wall nearest the door or an outside wall beside the driveway, with a 7.5 metre tethered lead. We look at how you park during the site visit and suggest the spot that avoids juggling the car and van.

How much does EV charger installation cost in Sandstone Point?

A standard single-phase install in Sandstone Point is from $990 inc GST with Connex Electrical, plus the charger unless you already have one. Long cable runs, switchboard upgrades and three-phase chargers cost extra and are quoted in writing first. Most installs take 2 to 4 hours.

How can I keep EV charger installation affordable in Sandstone Point?

Put the charger close to the switchboard, choose a 7kW single-phase unit and send photos so we can quote without a visit. If you already have a charger, you only pay for installation, at the standard $990 inc GST. Every quote is fixed, so there are no surprises on the day.

My house is fairly new. Is installation simpler?

Usually, yes. Homes built in the last 15 to 20 years tend to have modern switchboards with safety switches and spare space, and the garage is often close to the board. That keeps most installs at the standard price. We still confirm your supply capacity, especially if you have ducted air conditioning, a pool or an existing solar system.

Can a Tesla Wall Connector charge other EVs?

Yes. The current Tesla Wall Connector uses the standard Type 2 plug used in Australia, so it can charge non-Tesla EVs as well. It delivers up to about 7.4kW on single phase. It does not follow your solar surplus on its own (Tesla's solar charging features rely on other Tesla hardware), so solar owners who want that often choose a Zappi or Wattpilot instead.

Is there a Queensland rebate for home EV chargers?

Not at the moment. There is currently no Queensland Government rebate for home EV chargers. The state Zero Emission Vehicle rebate for cars closed on 2 September 2024 when its funding ran out. Occasionally a retailer or federally funded trial offers a subsidised charger, and if one fits your situation we will tell you. Be wary of "free installation" offers that lock you into a particular charger or energy plan.
